Clara George: Listen

I've Been Workin' On The Railroad

(Traditional)
There are so many possibilities of what you can do with this song. For a calmer experience, you can take a block and pretend like you are "hammering" the floor. You can pretend you are blowing a train whistle during the next verse (children love making the train whistle sound effect). Then you can pretend that you are cooking/stirring and strumming a banjo during the corresponding verses.

For a more gross motor experience, you can make a long train where a group of children can put their hands on each others' shoulders and chugga-chugga-choo-choo.
Lyrics:

I've been workin' on the railroad,
All the live long day.
I've been workin' on the railroad,
Just to pass the time away.
Can't you hear the whistle blowing?
Rise up so early in the morn.
Can't you hear the captain shouting
"Dinah, blow your horn?"

Dinah, won't you blow,
Dinah, won't you blow,
Dinah, won't you blow your horn?
Dinah, won't you blow,
Dinah, won't you blow,
Dinah, won't you blow your horn?

Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah.
Someone's in the kitchen, I know.
Someone's in the kitchen with Dinah
Strumming on the old banjo.

Fee, fie, fiddle-e-i-o.
Fee, fie, fiddle-e-i-o-o-o-o.
Fee, fie, fiddle-e-i-o.
Strumming on the old banjo.
